The Situation
The Patient Financial Services department of a medical center and large teaching hospital spent over one million dollars in 1991 to purchase equipment and staff its own imaging system in order to improve collections, reduce Accounts Receivable days, free-up file room space and reduce labor costs associated with file storage and retrieval. Seven years later, the medical center needed to upgrade its existing capital equipment, purchase additional equipment and augment the labor force in order to accommodate the increased workload.
The Challenge
The costs associated with this project led the organization to consider outsourcing the entire imaging department in order to:
- Avoid further investment in capital equipment
- Discontinue managing imaging in-house to allow for more attention to core business
- Eliminate operating costs
- Downsize workforce to save on labor costs
The Solution
HealthSERVE Medical Record Management met these challenges by:
- Converting images from one electronic application to another (FileNet to Global 360)
- Managing the entire imaging operation off site
The Results
HealthSERVE Medical Record Management helped this company eliminate costs associated with:
- Capital equipment and maintenance
- System license fees
- Operating overhead, including the cost of maintaining six full-time employees and IT support hours
